Competitive Dance Lessons

At Arthur Murray, there's always a spotlight to be found! There are regular competitions in Australia and all around the world where students of all age groups and levels live their dreams of performance.

If you want to take your lessons to the next level, why not work towards one of the many competitions that are held throughout the year. At Arthur Murray Crows Nest, there's always an opportunity to step out into the spotlight!

There are 2 main types of competitions held throughout the year... Showcases and Dance-O-Rama's.

Showcase

A Showcase is a 1-day non-competitive event, held once or twice a year and it's specifically catered for those students who wish to try their hand at dancing outside the Studio, in a social environment and in front of a crowd, all without the stress of performing at a professional competition.

You're placed in heats according to your standard, you can wear your ballroom and latin costumes and then you dance on the floor in front of three judges.

The judges are there to critique you, to aid you in your dancing, giving you constructive feedback that will help you and your teacher make any necessary improvements.

The evening then turns into a formal ball and students have the opportunity to perform solo routines they have been working on during the last two to three months. After that, it's time to relax, drink, eat and dance the night away!

Dance-O-Ramas

Held once a year locally, once a year nationally and throughout the year internationally, these competitions are the culmination of all of the hard work our students put into their dancing. Dance-o-Ramas, or DORs, are not only for seasoned competitors but also for the newer students of the Studio who wish to try their hands (or feet!) at a professional competition.

Spanning over a 2 to 4 day period, these competitions are not only an extension of the one-day showcase, but incorporate additional events, standards, social outings, professional floor shows and international judges to make the experience even more memorable.

National DORs, are exactly the same, only held interstate, giving the students an opportunity to travel away for a weekend and enjoy time with other Studios from around the country doing the things we love to do best… dancing!

Superamas and World Dance-O-Ramas are global events, the biggest Arthur Murray has to offer and are the ultimate experience for any student. From New York to Vegas, Italy to New Orleans, these events are truly a once in a life-time experience.

In a nutshell…

Showcase gives you the experience of a DOR and allows you to prepare for a DOR, all without the need to compete. It's a less formal event, usually held at a function centre and it’s non-competitive. Every student receives individual critique from the judges, all designed to prepare them for the competitive nature of a DOR.

DOR is designed to be a 2 to 4 day event at a luxurious hotel, with multiple categories, renowned judges, floor shows and always involve Studios from around Australia... and even from around the world. It's designed to be the ultimate experience for every dancer, to take their dancing to the furthest level and partake in an experience that will last a life-time.
